Abstract

This article shows a part of the constitution of the National Library of Mexico. Through a brief view are reconstructed the steps of the Fund Source (first collection of the Library) during the 19th Century, especially the vicissitudes which this institution crossed in the struggle between liberals and conservatives. Here appear the most prominent protagonists of this episode of the Mexican national history: El Colegio de Santa María de Todos Santos, the National and Pontifical University of Mexico, the ex-temple of St. Augustine, Joaquín Fernández de Lizardi, Lucas Alamán, José María Bustamante, José María Luis Mora and José María Lafragua, among others. This paper gives us a deeper radiography about the cultural environment of the 19h Century period, and, above all, the fate that was part of the bibliographical material of the novohispano past.
