Abstract
This paper shows the online cataloging resources conducted by the Mexican National Library (Biblioteca Nacional de México). Two things are analyzed here: first, the evaluation criteria and selection; and second, the backgrounds and the cataloging normative framework that rules bibliographic description of the various information resources’ categories. This work remarks the institutional referent of the National Library which is the Bibliographical Research Institute (Instituto de Investigaciones Bibliográficas), which rules the Library and launched its Institutional Development Plan 2008-2011, which proposed tasks of technological innovation and modernization of technical processes and the library services. This article highlights that trough more than 40 years the Bibliographic Research Institute has participated in publications, diffusion and the use of the Anglo-American Cataloging Rules (rca2), which are the main rule of the bibliographic description of online resources. It is also manifest some basic elements of the rules of Resource Description Access (rda), the principles and guidelines of the new bibliographic scheme.
