Abstract

Most historians of different periods agree that the first general history of Mexico, that of Riva Palacio, stands at the forefront of nineteenth-century historiography. This judgment is a response to both the scope of the project and the author's determination to reconcile opinions and demonstrate that, rather than partisans of different causes, the protagonists were all simply Mexicans with a common past at a time of great transitions and ideological conflicts.
