Abstract

Known as the most outstanding Spanish writer of the 19th century, author of novels such as Nazarín, Doña Perfecta, Miau, etc., of the Episodios nacionales (historic fresco composed of 46 novels of the 19th century) and of theatre plays like Electra, La loca de la casa and others, Benito Pérez Galdós is presented to the reader through his vast production. The authors of this investigation, Lilia Vieyra Sánchez and John H. Sinnigen, take care of presenting the reception of Galdós' work in Mexico, a bibliohemerographical selection that covers journals, booklets and editions on one part, and literary magazines on the other. The authors' selection includes articles by several journalists, by correspondents in Spain and by well known contemporary Mexican writers, including Manuel Gutiérrez Nájera, Carlos Díaz Dufoo, Francisco Sosa, Emilio Rabasa and Hilarión Frías y Soto. Regarding the latter, four articles about the drama La loca de la casa are included, as well as the entire texts of the debate between Sosa and Rabasa about Miau.
