Abstract
The author presents to us a bibliographical semblance of don José Justo Gómez de la Cortina, an efficient governor of Mexico City (1835-1836), Minister of the Treasury Department, in charge of the Exterior Relations Bureau (1838), representative in the Sixth Constitution Congress (1835-1836), etcetera. He was also the founder and president of the Institute of Geography and Statistics (1833), president of the Academy of Language (1835), in addition to other charges. He collaborated, among other publications, in El Registro trimestre, El Mosaico Mexicano, El Museo Mexicano, El Universal, El Siglo diez y nueve y El Zurriago literario. As a politician, the earl of Cortina will be always remembered for his principles of peace and order; as a public man he knew how to win the affection of his contemporaries by constantly giving support to the national culture and his accentuated philanthropy.
