Abstract

The idea of creating a department in the National Library to be used by blind or vision impaired persons emerged when the world phenomena of supporting the blind arrived in Mexico in 1959. It was a product of the work of Manuel Solórzano Fernández, that was then approved by the director of the Library, Manuel Alcalá. The Tiflológico has been diversifying and modernizing its services, introducing computers and programs that stimulate the skills of the users. This has represented an alternative for their personal and professional development.
