Abstract

The Angel María Garibay archives, concentrated in the Fondo Reservado of the National Library, are useful for historians, hellenists, and hebrewists, philosophers, writers and linguists. Taking advantage of the rich mine of materials they offer, the author focuses on one of the themes Garibay used to specially cultivate the Nahuatl's influence on the Spanish of Mexico. Fluent in several languages, he studied the linguistic trans cultural phenomena, and placed special importance on this influence. He documented around a million Nahuatlisms and watched for their current use. His reflections on the subject are of great importance to achieve a more just evaluation on such a controversial matter.
