Abstract
El Machete, the official organ of the Mexican Communist Party, arose from within the revolutionary press with the aim of heightening the awareness of the masses and facilitating their organization. It was intended for the urban and rural working classes, particularly manual laborers; however, as can be seen, it was guilty of dogmatism and stereotyping that in reality communicated nothing to them. The review of the publication offered, here reveals to the reader the functions of the revolutionary press, its capacity for collective organization, its tendency towards propaganda and an interpretative approach to events, and its ideological commitment. El Machete was, among other things, a promoter of communism, a cutting-edge ideology at the time.
