Abstract
As a result of the modernization which took place in Argentina in the late 19th Century, illustrated periodical publications increased their development and directly influenced the young public at the time. Initially, editions such as La Ilustración Infantil and Diario de los Niños intended to educate and discipline their readers through contents which pretended to be a cultural prolongation of home or school. At the same time, the illustrations accompanying these texts became fundamental in penetrating the children’s minds. In the early 20th Century, this type of literature became mass-scaled because of an increase in the usage of visual diversity, making these publications more attractive and using elements such as literary fiction, fantasy and humor. Likewise, advertising images acquire more relevance while attempting to attract the young public towards the consumer market.
