Abstract
Thomas Alva Edison’s kinetoscope was the last predecessor of movies. In 1869, the cinematograph of the brothers Auguste and Louis Lumière spread out throughout several countries in America, but it was not a uniform event nor were the circumstances identical; however, what can be stated is that in some countries this occurrence has not been studied thoroughly, and in some others there is no regarding literature at all. The cinematograph arrived first to Buenos Aires and Brazil, then to Uruguay and afterwards to México (on August 6, 1896) in a private session which took place in the Alcázar of the Chapultepec Castle, attended by the general Porfirio Díaz, his family and friends. It was in our country where filming first occurred, though the first moving images related to Mexican topics are dated from 1894.
