Abstract
Through the writings of Manuel Payno we see in this article the references found in his works regarding women in general and about flirtatious and neat homeless women in particular. Premeditated flirting is condemned because it is used to bewitch a man, and once he’s subjugated, he’s destroyed. This type of couple is referred to as “vulture woman” and “lamb man”. However, the woman rarely comes out unharmed from such adventures, since she is usually punished by “Providence”. On the other hand, dying women represent a special attractive since they’re condemned to death, which represents the poetic sublimation of love. Homeless women draw from Payno the biggest demonstrations of sympathy, and sometimes even love. But the young homeless girl had to possess at least two virtues in order to be saved from misery: beauty and neatness.
