Abstract
The chronicle developed in the 19th Century in French journals (and Mexican ones as well) is a genre both literary and popular which becomes an emblem of daily life, into the symbol of development of the media era. The chronicle, as journalistic genre, is split between being a literary ambition and a media obligation. This same ambiguity might be what grants it its character essential to literature, an ambiguity which is based on the search for media through literature, and vice versa.
