Abstract

The catalogue of Enrique de Olavarría y Ferrari’s private library, besides scientific and literary works, contains an important collection of journals, calendars and pamphlets. It possessed shelves full of documents scrupulously gathered, revised and differentiated. The calendar collection is varied, but even more varied is the journal collection, which is divided in literary and political journals. The pamphlets and smaller works is the largest and most diverse (458 publications organized in 63 tomes) and its topics are politics, public administration, pedagogy, literature, history and science. The author referred to these periodical and fleeting works to write, for instance, his Episodios nacionales, the fourth tome of México a través de los siglos and the Reseña histórica del teatro en México.
