Abstract
This paper studies the “Memoria de libros” (Book records) of three physicians of the 18th Century in New Spain: Joseph Thomás Araujo y García del Valle (1712-1776), who had 239 titles on his records; Pedro Matheo Mariano de Almonte Pérez y Villalobos (1737-1784), whose inventory reached 126 volumes, of several sizes, plus six books banned by the Inquisition; and Joseph Rafael Cuevas Veles (1770-1804), with 79 items. Among these lists, subjects such as Medicine and Surgery stand out, showing which prove that this outstanding community of scientists and physicians had a high degree of professional interest. The documents analyzed here came from the Archivo General de la Nación (The National General Archive).
