Abstract
The Newspapers and Magazines Department was established in the choir of the former convent of San Agustín, inside the National Library, in 1912. Around that time, Mexican Revolution was developing; consequently this institution was immersed in it, and even had a direct impact in its course when President Francisco I. Madero appointed Rogelio Fernandez Güell as head of the institution. Moreover, during this historical phase, periodicals played a highly significant role in the turn of the events that took place between 1911 and1913.
