Abstract

This article addresses certain aspects of the cataloguing work in the Mexican National Library, related to the physical description of audiovisual materials and electronic resources, in the light of new situations derived from the application of advances and actualizations of the Anglo-American Rules of Cataloguing. The author outlines ideas of the new code which will substitute them, the Resource Description and Access, and at the same time suggests the elaboration of guidelines and cataloguing politics, the development of interpretation criteria of the aforementioned rules, and sets as a particular objective the harmonization of these with the Spanish Language Spelling and the International Unit System in the physical description, through the usage of conventional terminology, symbols and metric measures.
