Abstract
A brief overview of the first writers in Chiapas (theologians, academics, and members of different religious orders) whose works included notable sermons, funeral prayers, poetry, and theological, grammatical, and philosophical dissertations that show the influence of their authors' religious training. These works, which are of great bibliographical and historical value, reflect the culture of a period and offer us an insight into the everyday life of the society of New Spain in Chiapas and Guatemala during the first years after independence.
