Abstract
Even though Don Joaquín García Icazbalceta is better known by his valuable contributions in the fields of Mexican bibliography, national history and the letters in general, the author of this article highlights Don Joaquín's contribution to the study of the history of Mexican medicine. However, we must mention that beside his monumental Bibliografía mexicana del siglo XVI, his incursion in the history of medicine turns out to be insignificant. All in all, papers like "Physicians of Mexico in the 16th Century", which tells of the arrival of the first professional physicians from Spain, or the Informe sobre los establecimientos de beneficencia y corrección de esta capital..., constitute a rich amount of information for those who devote themselves to the study of the history of medicine in Mexico.
