Abstract

The work of Juan Bautista Iguíniz as a driving force of the librarian profession in México is related to the history of the formation of capable personnel in the environments of libraries and national bibliography schools. For Iguíniz, a librarian must be an efficient “organizer of the intellectual treasures under his care”. In November, 1915, he participated in the foundation of the first National School of Librarians and File Managers, he was part of the Library Department, was president of the first Mexican Librarian Association, and founding member and scholar of the National School of Librarianship and Archivonomy (Documentation). Passionate towards teaching and bibliographic investigation, Iguíniz was also director of the National Library, and founded the librarianship and archivonomy career in the Philosophy and Letters Faculty.
