Abstract

The author narrates some details of the official possession as first president of México by José Miguel Ramón Adaucto Fernández y Félix, better known as Guadalupe Victoria in honor of the Virgin of Guadalupe and the Mexican insurgency. He came into office in the National Palace on October 10th, 1824, and afterwards, accompanied by his followers, headed to the Metropolitan Cathedral for the celebration of a Te Deum. The figure of Guadalupe Victoria, despite his tireless military activity as an insurgent throughout 14 years and being the only one who fully finished his Presidency in more than 30 years of an independent México (1824-1829), has not been taken into fair account by historians. The remains of this worthy patriot rest inside the Column of Independence, together with those of vice-president Nicolás Bravo.
