Abstract

The study of editorial and typographic production of the 19th Century in Latin America hasn’t been taken on by designers themselves, but by art historians or bibliophiles, a fact that has determined the approach and biases present in their analysis, as well as the working out of conclusions about the repercussion of these products in the graphic design discipline. The author studies the beginning of press in Venezuela, analyzing secondary sources accessible in Mexican libraries and collections, and as well she offers some coincidental points between press labors at the time both in Venezuela and México, relevant information which makes up one of the clearest antecedents regarding the origins of the graphic and typographic design professions in Latin America.
