Abstract

The angle of Justo Sierra as a translator isone of the least studied of all his work and it openly deserves more attention. In occasion of the celebration of the Mexican revolution centennial and the opening of the Universidad Nacional in 1910, this part of his work must come to light. This article is a definitive contribution to the understanding of Justo Sierra´s modern vision and his role as a literary critic and an essay ist of the Mexican history, especially his poetic production. This work also stands out his role as a translator of Parnassian poetry at the light of the classic tradition. Thus, Justo sierra is seen as abridge builder between both traditions and he reveals himself as a piece of a richer generation of translators, who were trying to explain literary processes of the Mexican lyric.
